What is the ADBGV?

When was it founded?

The ADBGV (Association of Directors of Municipal and Intermunicipal Libraries in Large French Cities) was created in March 2002.

Why?

The ADBGV is a specialized association that brings together libraries confronted with the same problems, to help find and share solutions together. Its aim is not to do what other institutional or private partners or associations are doing already, but rather to cooperate with them.

The ADBGV has the following goals:
- the exchange, capitalization on and dissemination of information, experience and know-how,
- the performance of studies and surveys,
- the creation or inventory of tools meeting common needs,
- forecasting the ways in which our missions will be changing,
- learning from experiences in other countries,
- representing the directors of the municipal and intermunicipal libraries of large French cities when dealing with all institutional partners, whether public or private.

Who are the members?

Directors may join the association if their municipal or intermunicipal library has one of the following characteristics:
- it is funded by a municipality or group of municipalities with at least 50,000 inhabitants
or
- it employs the equivalent of at least 50 full-time employees
or
- it has a total surface area of at least 4000 m²

How does it operate?

The ADBGV has a project-based operation. Each project is managed by a working group, led by a project manager who is a library director. The working group is free to set its own calendar and methods. It reports on its work at the annual meeting, and the results of these projects are published on the ADBGV Website.
